Green Bay Packers Make Initial Roster Cuts Ahead of Deadline

The Green Bay Packers have begun trimming their roster down to the required 53 players ahead of the NFL's first cut deadline. On Monday, the team released outside linebacker Randy Ramsey, offensive lineman Cole Schneider, and cornerback Donte Vaughn. This move leaves the Packers with 88 players on their active roster.

On Tuesday morning, the team continued with more roster cuts, releasing running back B.J. Baylor, linebacker Ellis Brooks, tight end Dominique Dafney, and offensive lineman George Moore. These moves bring the team's active roster down to 84 players.

Baylor's release may come as a surprise considering he delivered the longest play of Friday's game in San Francisco with a 68-yard reception. However, he only caught four passes for 60 yards and one touchdown in his Packers career and did not play in Friday's preseason opener due to an injury.

Brooks saw limited action on Friday, playing nine snaps at inside linebacker towards the end of the game and was last in the pecking order behind fellow linebackers. Moore did not appear in any games during training camp and was not a contender for a roster spot.

The Packers still have some decisions to make before reaching their final 53-man roster. The team will continue to work with the remaining 84 players, including those from the New Orleans Saints, who will join them for joint practices on Tuesday and Wednesday.
