As a long-time fan of the Mario Party series, I was excited to dive into the latest installment on the Nintendo Switch. However, my enthusiasm was short-lived as I quickly became frustrated with the game's numerous flaws.

First and foremost, the motion control specific modes are an absolute nightmare. Who thought it was a good idea to force players to use one Joy-Con while performing awkward gestures? It's like being transported back to the Wii era, but without the charm. The inability to use the Pro Controller or two Joy-Cons is a significant drawback.

But the real disappointment lies in the game's online features. I was misled by the promise of competing in mini-games with others online, only to find that it's not what it seems. Instead, players can participate in five mini-games, but these are simply roll-offs where extra dice are added to allow for more travel on the tiny maps. This broken economy makes it feel like a cheap trick.

To make matters worse, ally characters are introduced, which only serve to impede the flow of the game. It's unclear why Nintendo chose to implement this feature, but it's likely due to the small board size.

The golden pipe system is another issue, where players can farm coins and buy stars for 10 coins each. This reduction from 20 coins in previous games makes stars feel like a cheap prize. The aesthetically and playability-wise pathetic boards only add to my disappointment.

In conclusion, Mario Party Switch fails to deliver on its promises, instead serving up a mess of poorly designed modes and features. As someone who was expecting a return to the original formula, I'm left feeling disappointed and frustrated with this lackluster installment in the series.
